Frequently Asked Questions
  • Why Choose Move4U Movers?

We are a licensed and insured moving company (ILCC 220013) and will make sure to follow all the legal guidelines provided by the Illinois Comers Commission. Also, we are proud members of the Illinois Movers’ and Warehousemen’s Association. To become a member, a moving company must meet their high standards. Our movers are employees, and workers’ compensation insurance covers them, we do not use subcontractors.

  • My building requires a certificate of insurance from the moving company. Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, we are a licensed and insured company. Proof of insurance can be provided for no additional charge upon request.

  • Can you disassemble furniture? Will your moving crew arrange the furniture in my new home?

Yes, our movers can disassemble and reassemble furniture. They will have all the necessary tools. Our moving crew will work with you to ensure everything is in its proper place before they leave.

  • What days or dates are the best for moving?

The least busy times for moving are typically in the middle of the week and in the middle of the month. Most people move at the end or the beginning of the month, and the most convenient days are on the weekends because people do not have to miss any work. If you're planning a move on a weekend or at the beginning or end of a month, schedule your move well in advance because the demand is high, and the schedule fills up quickly.

  • Will you cancel my scheduled move in case of bad weather?

No, our professional moving crew and trucks are well-prepared to operate even in the worst weather conditions, as long as it is safe to do so. We have the necessary equipment and supplies to protect your belongings from most weather conditions.

  • How can I maintain a budget-friendly move?

Every move is different, but we have seen everything. The most effective way to reduce your moving costs is to be as prepared as possible as it can significantly shorten the duration of your move:

    • Boxing Smart: Ensure your boxes are well-prepared – securely taped, clearly labeled, and ready for transportation.
    • Furniture Disassembly: While we are happy to help disassemble furniture to fit through doorways or remove doors when necessary, taking care of these tasks in advance can reduce costs.
    • Consolidation: Before our arrival, box up loose items and keep them in a central location to expedite the moving process.
    • Safety First: To maintain a smooth and cost-effective move, ensure that pets and children are kept safely out of the movers' path.

By following these guidelines, you can maximize your cost savings while ensuring a successful and budget-friendly move.

  • When does the moving clock start?

The labor time starts when our movers arrive at the pick-up location and finishes when the movers are done moving at the drop-off location. Drive time between origin and destination is considered hourly labor time. Wait time or downtime, such as unavailable parking, elevators, or absences, is billed at the same rate as the hourly labor rate.

  • How far in advance should I schedule my move?

Our company operates on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend scheduling your move as soon as you know your move-out and move-in dates. It's very important to make a reservation at least 2-3 weeks in advance. However, if your move is on a weekday in the middle of the month, 1-2 weeks in advance should be sufficient.

  • My move date has changed. What should I do?

Please contact our office as soon as possible if your move dates have changed. We offer free rescheduling based on our availability with at least 72 business hours' notice. Keep in mind that your hourly rate may also vary depending on the new dates you select.

  • Can I assist your movers in the loading and unloading to speed up the move?

We only allow our movers to handle the loading and unloading of items into and out of the truck due to insurance policy regulations. However, you can help by packing everything and positioning it near the loading area, ensuring everything is ready when the movers arrive.

  • Do I need a parking permit with enforceable 'no parking' signs?

If there is a narrow street, no loading dock, alley, or driveway, we recommend getting a 'no parking' sign. We can help you to get it through the city of Chicago, there is a $45 fee for each parking permit per location. Metered parking fees vary by location.

  • How can I pay for my move? Will I receive a receipt of the charges?

You can pay by cash, Zelle, or credit/debit cards (a 3.5% processing fee will apply for Visa/MasterCard/Discover/American Express). Yes, you will receive a copy of the Estimate of Charges and Bill of Lading. Please retain it for your records and tax purposes.

  • Do I need to empty all the drawers, or can I leave them full?

Please empty all chest of drawers and place the contents in separate boxes or bags. The added weight can compromise the structure of the furniture, potentially causing it to break.

  • Does the price change if I have more or fewer items to be moved?

If you move some stuff in advance by yourself and you have less stuff to move, your move should take less time, and backward if you have some additional stuff to move, your move should take more time. All moves have 2 hours minimum on the labor, and any additional hour is prorated in 15-minute increments. Please note that the size of the truck we will send for your move is also determined by your inventory, so if you have additional stuff to move, please let us know in advance so that we can send a big enough truck for your move.

  • Can I ride in the moving truck once the loading is complete?

For liability reasons, customers are not allowed to ride in the truck during the transport of their belongings to their new home. However, you can choose to follow us or lead the way.

  • Do I need shrink wrap for my move?

We offer FREE padding with moving blankets for metal, wooden, and plastic furniture. We recommend using shrink wrap primarily for bulky items like couches, armchairs, and loveseats. The cost for shrink wrap is $45 per roll or $12 per item.

  • Can You Move Plants?

Yes, we can move plants. Movers will do their best to move them safely. However, please note that we are not liable for damages to plants. If possible, we highly recommend moving them with your own vehicle.

  • Can you take the TV off the wall?

We would be happy to help you to unmount your TV. However, please note that our movers cannot mount it back at your new place as we are not licensed to drill.

  • What is the travel fee?

The travel fee covers our movers’ travel time from our office to your pick-up location and from your drop-off location back to our office. In addition, it covers miscellaneous fees related to the truck, such as the fuel expanse, mileage, tolls, and taxes.
